"To all who come to this happy place–welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." – Walt Disney
On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney made history as he dedicated Disneyland Park. Though construction had only begun in July of 1954, Walt's dream of Disneyland Park had been alive for many years.
Saturday was always "Daddy's Day" when Walt's daughters were young in the 1930s. He often took them to the merry-go-round in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. He'd sit on a bench and eat peanuts while he watched the girls on the ride. "Sitting there, alone, I felt that there should be something built, some kind of family park where parents and children could have fun together," Walt said. The carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks of the day were usually dirty, disorganized, and poorly run. Walt envisioned a whole new kind of park, where parents could participate in the adventures with their children. Thus, Disneyland was born.

Mary Poppins Umbrella Replica
When Mary Poppins arrived at Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, she did so in a remarkable way – floating on the east wind, held elegantly aloft by her stout black umbrella. To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the film, we proudly present this precise replica of Mary Poppins' signature umbrella. Its distinctive arched silhouette, crisp black fabric and elegant tasseled cord neatly evoke the film's 1910 period opulence. The famed parrot-head handle has been cast from a mold taken from the original and precisely painted and detailed down to the express I've glass eyes to make it "practically perfect in every way."
